Sample report

What an audit report looks like.

Illustrative. The shipper, carriers, PRO numbers and amounts are invented.

This is a made-up batch built to show the format and the kinds of findings. It is not a customer's data and not a claim about typical results. Your batch may come back with more to dispute, or with nothing.

Detail

A-1001: dispute, $242.55

  • BOL: 2 pallets, 48 x 40 x 50 in, 720 lb each, class 85. Cube 111.1 cu ft, density 12.96 lb/cu ft. Scale gives class 85.
  • Certificate: 48 x 40 x 72 in per pallet, weight unchanged. Cube 160.0 cu ft, density 9.00. Scale gives class 100.
  • Billed: class 125, which needs density under 8.

The billed class does not follow from the carrier's own inspection. At minimum the invoice should be rerated to class 100. Whether it goes back to 85 depends on the 22 inches of height: your pack-out photo shows two layers of cartons at roughly pallet-plus-44, which supports 50. Ask for the dimensioner image.

B-2001: dispute, $246.90

  • BOL: 1 pallet, 48 x 40 x 48 in, 400 lb, class 125. Density 7.50. Scale gives class 125.
  • Certificate: 48 x 40 x 96 in. Density 3.75. Scale gives class 250.

Length and width match yours exactly and height is exactly double, at trailer height. That is the pattern of freight treated as non-stackable. Your BOL carries no stacking instruction and the photo shows a flat, wrapped top. Ask the carrier what basis it had for the 96 in figure.

B-2002: dispute, $212.00

Residential delivery ($118.00) and liftgate ($94.00) were added after delivery. The consignee is a distribution warehouse. The delivery receipt shows a dock door number and a receiving stamp. Neither charge is supported by the receipt. Send the receipt and the consignee's business listing and ask for the address to be recoded so it stops happening.

A-1004: borderline, $102.80

  • BOL: 2 pallets, 48 x 40 x 47 in, 640 lb each. Density 12.26. Class 85.
  • Certificate: 49 x 41 x 48 in. Density 11.47. Class 92.5.

The carrier's figures are one inch larger in each direction, which is ordinary overhang and wrap. You sit 2% above the class break at 12, so this will keep happening. Without a photo there is nothing to answer the certificate with. We would not file this one. Either trim an inch of height or ship this product at 92.5.

A-1002: pay, with a request, $59.40

BOL weight 500 lb, reweigh 548 lb. The 48 lb difference is a pallet. The reweigh stands. However, at 548 lb on the same 66.7 cu ft the density is 8.22, which is class 100, and the corrected invoice kept class 125. Ask for the rerate at class 100. It may offset most of the correction.

A-1003: pay, $191.20

BOL: 3 pallets, 48 x 40 x 54 in, 610 lb each, declared class 70. Density is 10.17, which is class 92.5. The carrier billed 92.5. The correction is right and the BOL was wrong.

Fix list

  1. The class 70 template. A-1003 used a saved BOL with class 70 from before the density scale. Any shipment built from it will be corrected. Replace the stored class with one calculated from actual dimensions.
  2. Pallet weight. A-1002 declared product weight only. Add 45 to 50 lb per pallet, or weigh the built pallet.
  3. The product on A-1004. It lives on a class break. Change the stack or quote it one class up.
  4. The B-2002 consignee. Get the address recoded as commercial with a dock.

What we could not check

No pricing agreement was provided, so we do not know whether an FAK applies to carrier A. If classes 85 through 100 rate the same under your agreement, the A-1001 dispute is worth less than shown. Send the agreement and we will redo that line.

Review performed by an AI system (Anthropic's Claude) from the documents provided. Not legal advice. Your carrier's tariff and your pricing agreement govern.
